The iconic Yank-n-Yard returns for the 16th year!  This year we have made a few changes in our quest to develop the best bouldering competition imaginable. Our crew of route setters has been hard at work developing new monster features for our walls that will host creative and aesthetic boulder problems. The ante is up this year with a cash purse of $4,500 to be split up by the top six men and top six women competitors in our open category. On Saturday, we are hosting an A.B.S. sanctioned youth bouldering competition in the morning before the Citizens' competition for adult recreational climbers in the afternoon. The dual rounds will help distribute the crowd and allow everyone to climb to their hearts content, or the capacity of their skin, which ever comes first. This year's event is a fundraiser for the Access Fund and the NM Climbers' Resource and Advocacy Group (NM CRAG). We are donating $5 from every registration fee to the Access Fund and will be hosting a membership drive for both organizations. Sign up for a joint Access Fund/NM CRAG membership during the competition and receive additional raffle tickets for the prize raffle.  Read on to learn the details of each competitor category:

A.B.S. Youth Bouldering Competition

Anyone 19 or under can sign up for the A.B.S. Youth Category. Anyone wanting credit for competing in the A.B.S. series will need to sign up for this category. These competitors will climb in the morning on Saturday. You will still get entered in the prize raffle. You will get to climb the same boulder problems as the Citizens category. The price is the same. You will just have and earlier climb time. Any competitors 14 or under who wish to participate in the Yank-n-Yard are highly encouraged to sign up for this morning climbing time. We have found that the separation of adult and youth competitors is a key component for everyone having a good time, especially when the gym in packed. Also, the lines will be shorter in the morning due to having fewer competitors.

Citizens' Category

This is a competition for every rock climber. Our boulder problems will provide a fun challenge for climbers of all abilities, with grades ranging from V0 to V10 and up. Every year, we have awesome event sponsors that help us to compile a huge prize raffle. All competitors that turn in a score card will be entered in the raffle and everyone has an equal chance to walk away with an awesome prize. The top 10% of all competitors will be placed in an Advanced Category and the rest of the competitors will be placed in age categories, 19 and under, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, and 40 and over.  1st through 3rd place in each age category will receive a trophy and bragging rights until next year's event when they must re-earn their title. The end of the competition brings on the start of the party, the feast this year is brought to you with help from Ribs BBQ and La Cumbre Brewery. Fill up a plate and cup and find a seat for the most spectacular show of the season, the Open Category Finals!

Open Category

Want a shot at a $1,000 check? You've come to the right place. Our open category competition is a beast of it's own with two rounds of boulder problems and a cash purse of $4,500. Friday night (the 19th) is our qualifier round and this year it will be a 4 boulder problem on-sight format competition. The top six men and top six women at qualifiers will receive invitations to our Finals on Saturday night. Open finals will consist of 3 on-sight boulder problems and comes complete with stage lighting, live DJ, camera crew, and hundreds of New Mexico's most enthusiastic climbers to cheer you on.
