ABOUT US

Stone Age Climbing Gym operates an indoor rock climbing gym, climbing school, and climbing guide service at the foot of the Sandia Mountains in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Our facility and staff are focused on all aspects of rock climbing. Besides offering exciting climbing and a dedicated crew of AMGA certified instructors, we have a variety of programs that complement a climber's training regimen, as well as provide a social environment to be enjoyed with friends. The challenges provided by our walls are diverse; some climbs are as easy as climbing a ladder and others difficult enough to hold the attention of the most dedicated athletes. If you want to have a great time with friends and family at a birthday party or group event, a rock climbing experience can easily be fulfilled. An experienced instructor will guide you through the basics of rock climbing and holding the rope for each other during our complementary gym orientation. GYM HISTORY

Stone Age opened its doors in September of 1997 with about half of its current space and indoor climbing terrain. At the time, climbing gyms were still fairly novel and the original facility was an impressive venue for Albuquerque's small but growing community of rock climbers. Over the years Albuquerque's climbing community has grown and Stone Age has grown with it.

The first significant improvement was the addition of our Mezzanine bouldering area in 2002. The original crumb rubber floor was replaced at this time with gymnastic foam flooring, a much cleaner alternative. The largest growth at Stone Age occurred during 2004's acquisition of the neighboring 5000 SF warehouse bay and subsequent "Expansion". The Expansion added amenities such as locker rooms, birthday party facilities, fitness area with training and cardio equipment as well as doubling the climbing terrain. Additions included a top out boulder and huge lead climbing arch. One thing is certain, as any of our original members can attest, things are never static at Stone Age and we will continue to evolve and improve the facility to keep up with changes in the climbing world.
